Fulton Center

Fulton Center is one of New York City’s most significant public transport projects, reconnecting nine subway lines in a single, light-filled hub in Lower Manhattan. Reopened in 2014, the station serves around 300,000 commuters daily and sets a new benchmark for passenger experience in underground transport environments.

At the heart of the building is the iconic Sky Reflector Net, designed by James Carpenter in collaboration with Grimshaw Architects and Arup, with durlum delivering the daylight guidance system. An oval skylight dome draws natural light deep into the station, where individually engineered, perforated aluminium panels reflect daylight down through multiple levels of the atrium.

The result is a dynamic public space that connects commuters to the changing sky above, transforming a traditionally enclosed station into a bright, intuitive and memorable transport environment.
