Sustainability eBook 2025

Australia’s leading sustainability projects continue to show how thoughtful design, material choice and lifecycle thinking shape the built environment. This year’s Sustainability Awards shortlist highlighted standout projects that balance performance, environmental responsibility and a strong connection to place.

For the fourth year running, Network Architectural was proud to support Architecture & Design’s Sustainability Awards as partner of the Commercial Architecture – Large category. The program continues to spotlight projects that are raising the bar for sustainable design across Australia.

The 2025 shortlist was particularly strong, and the jury recognised two exceptional projects for their thoughtful approach to materials, performance and connection to place.

A big congratulations to Hassell for First Building – Bradfield City Centre and Searle x Waldron Architecture for Northern Memorial Park Depot. Both were awarded winner status this year and demonstrate how sustainability can be embedded into design without compromising ambition.

Our Sustainability eBook 2025 pairs these project highlights with our latest insights, including the industry’s shift toward zero-carbon aluminium, the increasing importance of lifecycle assessment and how to interpret EPDs with clarity and confidence.

Download the eBook to explore the ideas shaping sustainable architecture today and see how leading practices are putting them into action.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are invaluable for transparency, but they don’t automatically make a product sustainable. As Llewellyn Regler explains, EPDs are disclosure tools, not guarantees. This article unpacks the myth, showing why specifiers must look beyond the label to durability, maintenance, lifecycle cost and embodied carbon to achieve genuinely sustainable outcomes.
